Short Description
COMPOSITION: Each capsule contains powder and decoctions of Tribulus terrestris 450 mg
INDICATIONS:Tribulus Terrestris has been used as a general energy tonic and as an herbal remedy for impotence. In recent years, Tribulus Terrestris has developed a following among body builders and exercise enthusiasts. It is believed that Tribulus increases testosterone, which may be accomplished by raising the amount of LH (luteinizing hormone) that is produced by the pituitary gland. LH plays a significant role in regulating testosterone production. Tribulus Terrestris has been used in some cultures to increase libido, especially in men, and to treat sexual dysfunction. It has also been used as a tonic to increase energy levels.
General
Some of the specific uses
The Tribulus is now being promoted as a booster for the purpose of increasing the low sex-drive. The drug has been used for this purpose since years in Ayurvedic medical science and also in Eastern Europe in the 1970's. Independent studies have revealed that Tribulus terrestris extract slightly elevates the hormonal levels, though leaving them in the normal state.
Some have studied the tonic properties of Tribulus terrestris and have compared that to the effects of ginseng, but these occur due to totally different mechanisms. It is also recorded that Tribulus terrestris elevates testosterone levels by increasing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which eventually, in turn stimulates the production of LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Testosterone, besides its role in bodybuilding and increasing fertility and libido, the herb is also known to have a positive effect on bone marrow activity producing healthy red blood cell and the immune system.
Tribulus terrestris and sexual behavior
One of the rodent studies found Tribulus to be useful as a sex booster. Sexual behavior and intracavernous pressure (ICP) were studied in both normal and castrated mice to further evaluate the role of Tribulus as an aphrodisiac. ICP refers to blood flow into the corpus cavernosa of the male reproductive organ penis.
In the study, adult rats had been divided into groups of eight each that included distilled water treated (normal and castrated), testosterone treated (normal and castrated) and Tribulus treated (castrated). Compared to the castrated control, treatment of castrated rats (with either testosterone or Tribulus extract) depicted increase in prostate weight and ICP. There was also a mild to moderate betterment in sexual behavior as evidenced by an increase in mounting frequency.
Tribulus terrestris - heart and immune support
Tribulus terrestris has been studied in China and found to decrease the frequency of angina pectoris. Laboratory studies have revealed Tribulus to have antibiotic property and anti-tumor potentiality. Some of the researchers favor that there are some good evidences indicating Tribulus as enhancer for athletic performance.
Tribulus terrestris can also lower cholesterols levels in bloodstream, and, in addition, Tribulus also have potential antioxidant properties. Tribulus can also lower down the blood pressure in rats with hypertension and also possesses blood sugar lowering effect. In some study in laboratory, cells found in saponins from tribulus terrestris inhibited the growth of a particular type of liver cancer cell line.
Tribulus terrestris – urinary tract effect
The fruit of Tribulus terrestris has been widely used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine for the treatment of many urinary disorders including urolithiasis. In order to evaluate the therapeutic claims described about this plant in traditional medicine, the ethanol extract of Tribulus fruit was tested for its action against artificially induced urolithiasis in albino rats. The results were favoring the herb.
Tribulus or Gokshura is one of Ayurveda’s best herbs for the kidneys. The herb is very effective in most of the urinary tract disorders. This is because it will promote the flow of urine, will cool and sooth the membranes of the urinary tract. The herb has also been used to remove urinary stones. Gokshura also stops bleeding. It is known to nourish and to strengthen the kidneys and reproductive organs. Tribulus has been used in the treatment of cystitis, renal calculi (kidney stones), incontinence, gout and impotence. Tribulus can also possess a mild diuretic action.
Some of the scholars suggest that Gokshura is a wonderful herb for prostate gland, which reduces many urinary discomforts and prostate problems by cleansing and work as tonic for the lower abdominal organs (i.e. urinary bladder, prostate etc.). It also has aphrodisiac properties as the herb is very well known to increase the quantity of semen and is useful in diseases of the genitourinary tract.
Action on the overall body
The mechanism of the herb is not fully understood but according to one theory, Tribulus terrestris may work by relaxing the smooth muscles and increasing blood flow into the corpus cavernosa for its erectile dysfunction and libido enhancing property. The relaxant effect observed is probably due to the increase in the release of nitric oxide from the endothelium and other nerve endings. Since Tribulus relaxes smooth muscles, this could be the reason why it gets us benefits in abdominal colic.
In Ayurveda, it is called as ‘rasayana’ meaning the rejuvenating the health. This improves the longevity of a person by offering immunity and strength to the body organs and muscles. With the combination of other rasayana drugs, this makes an excellent rejuvenating formula. The drug can also be used as single herb.
Ancient science of Ayurveda also describes that the herb has excellent positive effect on urinary tract
